Project Description

NBLC was initially retained by the TCHC to create a development strategy for the revitalization of the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood in North York. Lawrence Heights is a 100-acre community currently consisting of over 1,200 rent-geared-to-income units. As a result of the assignment, NBLC developed a strategy for the revitalization that considered market and development economic factors, as well as the political and planning context culminating in an outline for the approach to the revitalization and a series of development recommendations.

As a direct result of our study, NBLC was selected as part of a consulting team with Sweeny Sterling Finlayson &Co. and GHK International, to create the Master Development Plan for the revitalization. NBLC has been charged with the creation of a business plan that ensures that the project is self-financing in the absence of any new capital or operating funding.

As part of the Master Development Plan exercise, NBLC organized and participated in numerous public consultation meetings. NBLC and the Consulting Team received an Honorable Mention in the Master Planned and Visions category in the City of Toronto’s 2009 Urban Design Awards.
