Project Description
NBLC was retained by the Blue Mountain Village Association in 2018 to undertake a study examining tourism workforce housing issues in South Georgian Bay with a view to defining key issues and identifying ways that the private and public sectors can collaborate across the region on innovative approaches to improve the supply of attainable housing.
This study provided an economic overview of the South Georgian Bay region, identified barriers to attainable housing, analyzed current housing market conditions in the region, determined target groups and priorities, and outlined a number of options and recommendations for creating new attainable housing for the tourism workforce. Among others, one of our recommended approaches was to utilize a similar model to recent student housing developments in order to house the entry-level and seasonal workers who tend to have the highest level of difficulty finding suitable housing.
