Project Description
UOIT, in partnership with the City of Oshawa, prepared a master plan to guide the expansion of the UOIT campus in Oshawa’s downtown. NBLC was retained as part of the consulting team to advise on approaches that would maximize the economic benefits of the expansion from the perspectives of UOIT, the City of Oshawa and the surrounding region and to identity issues and associated strategies.
The role of NBLC was to assist the designers and planners in devising a plan that met the objectives of UOIT, while at the same time maximizing benefits to the Downtown core.
NBLC examined both the near term benefits and the longer-term impacts of the UOIT downtown expansion plans to 2030, in terms of economic impacts, but also in terms of increased residential and non-residential development in the downtown.
A large portion of the background work involved detailed market analysis, demographic analysis and business surveys. Data from survey respondents was also used to identify opportunities for new investment, based on the types of businesses and quality of commercial space in Oshawa.
