Project Description

NBLC was retained by the Region of Peel to undertake a study of incentives that may be utilized by the Region and lower tier municipalities to encourage residential and employment development in identified intensification areas. The purpose of the project was to explore options available to the Region to promote and encourage residential intensification in existing downtowns and other centres in order to meet or exceed the targets in the Growth Plan. NBLC also examined feasible approaches to incite employment intensification in the Regional Municipality of Peel.

NBLC developed a report that examined the policy, market and development issues that are barriers or that support medium and high-density developments. We also examined the planning tools that are currently in use in Ontario and their relative performances. As part of the study, NBLC also examined the barriers to intensification and key issues to help frame policy recommendations.
